Cancel a Flight Booked With Us
If you need to cancel a flight that was ticketed through First Bell Holiday, our travel consultants will check the operating airline's published cancellation rules, calculate any applicable refund, and submit the request to the airline on your behalf.
The Most Important Window: 24 Hours
For flights to, from or within the United States that were booked at least seven (7) days before departure, U.S. Department of Transportation rules generally entitle you to a full refund if the cancellation is requested within 24 hours of ticketing — regardless of fare type. If you may need to cancel, calling us within that 24-hour window protects this right.
How a Cancellation Is Processed
- Call us at (888) 412-2404 or email contact@firstbellholiday.com with your booking reference.
- An agent reads the airline's fare rules for your ticket and identifies the refund (if any), travel credit (if any) and applicable penalties.
- We send you a written summary of what you can expect to receive back.
- Once you approve, we submit the cancellation and refund / credit request to the airline.
- You receive confirmation of the cancellation and, where applicable, a credit voucher or refund processing timeline.
Refundable vs Non-Refundable Tickets
- Refundable fares — Usually fully refundable to the original form of payment, less any agency service fee.
- Non-refundable fares — Cash refund is generally not available; the airline may issue a future travel credit, often with a re-booking fee.
- Basic Economy / restricted fares — Most carriers do not permit cancellation for refund or credit.
- Award tickets — Subject to the loyalty program's re-deposit rules and miles handling fees.
Cancellation Fees You May See
- Airline cancellation penalty — Set by the operating airline based on your fare class
- Agency service fee — Travel agency processing fee, disclosed in advance and generally non-refundable
- Refund difference — The remaining balance that the airline returns to you
Processing Times
Once we submit your cancellation:
- The airline typically processes the refund within 7–20 business days
- Your card issuer applies the credit to your statement within 1–2 billing cycles
- Travel credits are usually issued by the airline within 24–72 hours and are valid for 12 months from issuance (varies by airline)
Airline-Initiated Cancellations
If the airline cancels your flight, you are typically entitled to a full refund or a free re-route. First Bell Holiday will help facilitate either option at no extra agency charge. Please call us as soon as you receive a cancellation notice from the airline.
Compassionate Cancellations
Most airlines maintain published policies for cancellations due to documented medical emergencies, bereavement or jury duty. Acceptance is at the airline's sole discretion and requires supporting documentation. Our consultants can advise you on whether your situation is likely to qualify under the airline's rules.
